Make Men Pompous Again!

On ongoing series exploring masculine fashion and expression over time. 'Make Men Pompous Again!' part one uses the perfect blend of 18th century silhouettes and modern trends to show the fluctuating development of masculinity over time. The history of expression and culture has impacted the perception of masculinity within our society significantly. Men’s style has become much more simplistic than our ‘pompous’ ancestors - as we’ve gone from the elegant habit à la française to the classic jeans and a t-shirt. Modern sexism towards men who express themselves through makeup, wigs and extravagant clothing seems now that much sillier, as throughout many periods of time, the very same things were seen as a symbol of power, wealth and strength.
